Hey all, sorry for the delayed post... the jobs are running a bit slow today. They should hopefully finish up this evening. There was an unknown issue with the import that caused the jobs to hang. We cleared out the hang, but we aren't 100% sure that everyone's data is intact. My guess is 99% of you are ok... but for those of you that might have been effected, streaks are off for today.... we will resume streaks tomorrow.

Warhammer 40k action game leaked (video)

CVG: Space Marine appears in online video - and looks like Gears.

Someone at THQ is getting bollocked this morning: a full, developer-commentated video of a new Gears-like Warhammer 40k action game, called Space Marine, has leaked all over the internet.

As you can probably guess Space Marine is a third-person action affair (where you play as a Space Marine!) and according to the THQ narrator it's all about an "up-close personal, visceral, melee experience."

"It's the first time that the Warhammer license has been done in such an up-close and personal manner," says the anonymous narrator, "where as the MMO and RTS are more of a god-like experience, we want to get up close and personal."

TGR's Rumor Killers: Kingdom Hearts 3, New Halo Achievements, and GTA Wii

TGR - "Back when I first played Kingdom Hearts I, like many others, assumed it would be an affront to mankind and would quickly find itself consigned to bargain bins and whatever other place awful game ideas go to die. All the elements sounded awful; Final Fantasy characters melded with Disney mainstays, and combat which featured an over-sized key, a shield, and a duck with a speech impediment casting spells? Seemed like a sure fire flop; all we had to do was sit and wait for the inevitable crash and burn.

But then a funny thing happened and the game actually turned out to be great. All these disparate parts somehow came together to craft a truly memorable experience, which I suppose is a testament to the abilities of Square-Enix and the deep-seeded nostalgia that rests in all our hearts for classic Disney animated films. Ever since that initial success, the Kingdom Hearts franchise has been steamrolling along, producing quality content and massive sales with every new version. Now it looks like Sora and company are ready to strike again, as word has leaked that Sony will be showcasing the game at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show."

Rumor: Intel vying for Larrabee chip in Xbox 720

ntel is rumored to be heavily courting Microsoft for inclusion of its high-performance GPU Larrabee into the next-generation Xbox, according to The Inquier. Said their source, Intel is willing to make a lot of major concessions, the logic being inclusion in the console would compel game makers to develop for the chipset, increasing interest in the consumer PC market and making a dent in the GPU market dominated by ATI and Nvidia.

If you're looking to save a little extra green and willing to sacrifice some hard drive space, Best Buy now has the 20GB model listed at $259.99. Note that this now makes the launched 360 SKU a mere $10 more expensive than the Wii. It remains to be seen if any other retail chains will follow suit, but they have to get rid of that 20 gig stock somehow! Better pick yours up before they disappear for good.

When Peter Moore said "F*** you" to Yuji Naka

EA Sports boss recalls losing his rag with Sonic creator

In an interview featured in the latest issue of men's magazine Esquire, former Xbox 360 top man Peter Moore recalls how he once lost his cool and said "F*** you!" to Sega dev and Sonic creator, Yuji Naka. The boardroom bust-up happened as the Dreamcast's fortunes were plummeting in the face of competition from PlayStation 2.

Moore - who helped launch Sega's ill-fated machine and was working for the company at the time - wanted to find out how consumers perceived Sega compared with other games companies. He gathered a focus group of twentysomethings and asked "If these brands were people, who would they be?" Apparently, Sega turned out to be the "granddad with dementia who used to be cool but you couldn't remember why."

Moore had tapes of the focus group dubbed in Japanese and headed to Tokyo to report the doddering image of Sega to the company's board. However, when he arrived, Yuji Naka - who Moore describes as being "a tad conceited" - accused Moore of tampering with the dialogue. "I lost it," remembers Moore. "I turned to the interpreter and said, 'Tell him, "F*** you"."

Although the translator refused to convey Moore's feelings, he was pretty sure that his message got across. "Naka had lived in the US for three years, so I knew he understood. I walked out and never returned." What a badass.

Oh, and if you're curious, Moore also reveals that the focus group thought Rockstar was the "drunken uncle who'd show up with a hooker from Vegas". And EA - who Moore works for now - was considered to be "the high-school quarter back who always got the cheerleader - an arrogant son of a bitch."

Hmmm. If game companies were people. Sounds like a sterling idea for a feature...

Final Fantasy IV & Infinite Undiscovery released in Europe

The 5th September 2008 marks the release of two highly anticipated Square Enix RPG’s.

Final Fantasy IV is now avaliable for European gamers on the Nintendo DS, whilst Infinitie Undiscovery is avaliable for Xbox 360 owners.

Final Fantasy IV, the Nintendo DS remake, was firstly released in Japan back in 20th December 2007, with North America getting their hands on it a little later on 22nd July 2008

John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments:

Microsoft Confident of Second Place Finish This Gen

Don Mattrick, senior vice-president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, has said he expects the Xbox 360 to secure second place in the current generation console war.

"We will sell more consoles this generation than Sony," Mattrick told Business Week.

He made the comments as Microsoft announced it was slashing the price of all three of its Xbox 360 models in the US, having recently done so in Japan also. As a result of the move, the entry level Xbox 360 Arcade is now priced at $199, making it the cheapest of the current generation of consoles on the market.

However, Mattrick said he was less confident of the Xbox 360 catching this generation’s current market leader, Nintendo’s Wii.

"I'm not at a point where I can say we're going to beat Nintendo," he said.

On Thursday Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich told Edge that Microsoft's price cuts should have Sony "concerned". While he didn’t doubt the long-term success of Sony’s PS3, he did forecast that "the Xbox 360 will win another holiday season against the PS3 in North America."

Divinch expects a 20-30 percent short-term jump in Xbox 360 unit sales thanks to the price cuts, while Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter told us that he thinks the price reduction will "spark an increase of 15-20 percent in unit sales over the next 12 months".

"Nintendo need not worry about Microsoft, or anyone else for that matter," Divnich added. "...Nintendo has so much wiggle room on the Wii’s pricing that they will never be afraid of a competitor trying to use price as a differentiating feature.”

Cryptic 'definitely interested' in PS3 Champions Online

Speaking during a presentation to press at Leipzig Games Conference last month, Cryptic designer Aaron Safronoff said that the studio "would like to deliver the game to as many platforms" as possible.

When asked why there is no PS3 version planned, Safronoff replied: "The PS3 version is something we're definitely interested in. But as far as that launch time it will just be those two. As far as any specific reason why we haven't done it yet, I actually don't know that answer. But as far as time is concerned, we were already built in. We wanted to do the 360 and PC right away. Basically that was the quickest transition for us to get a game on the market."

He added: "We are certainly looking into it, absolutely. We would like to deliver the game to as many platforms as we possibly could."

Gamasutra - Sony Unconcerned About Xbox 360 Price Cuts

Microsoft's recent move to reduce Xbox 360 prices across the board may turn out to be especially significant for the console wars. It means that for the key holiday season, the mass-market Xbox 360 Arcade SKU is less expensive than the Wii -- and Wii may see additional challenges from supply constraints. And with both consoles now entering the $200 "inflection point" analysts say has historically helped spread console sales to new audiences, has Xbox 360 opened a competitive gulf over the PlayStation 3?

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter tells Gamasutra that, with a little help from correct marketing, Xbox 360 sales stand to lift 20 percent in the Fall-Holiday season over the same period last year. The $199 Arcade SKU in particular is expected to attract more mainstream consumers who are primarily interested in major brand names like EA Sports titles and Tony Hawk.
